After a mediocre showing at the Grove, Team Assos headed out of our comfort zone (to St. Charles County), to race the O’Fallon Gold Cup Criterium Bike Race. It was a nice course in a nice park with nice free beer. L. Mang found his way into a late break and swept up the sprint for a solid 6th, narrowly missing the generous 5 place podium. A decent payout allowed for customary Team Assos post race dinner traditions; in this case, top shelf margaritas and fish tacos on the money winners dime.
Today Team Assos headed out for 3 hours of motorpacing, in anticipation of our main goal of Superweek. This candid picture of us stopped at a stoplight during todays motorpacing session was anonymously emailed to us this evening:
Team Assos attempted the Tour of Hermann last weekend, and survived which is an accomplishment in itself at that race. We were excited to see Team Assos Official Race Consultant have a great weekend.
Team Assos found the lens of the camera this weekend. The best looking kit in the peloton
This weekend Team Assos heads across the river, something we like to do for one reason only (to go to Superweek in Milwaukee), to race the Belleville Criterium. Hopefully the rain stays clear of our proving grounds and we will be able to make a first, and long overdue, podium appearance.
For all of our desperate fans out there, we are happy to inform you that Team Assos’ next race, aside from the best race of the year (TNWs), will be Tour Of Hermann Stage Race Omnium. Our formidable team includes a previous vainqueur of the road race, in addition to a handful of other “successful” results. Despite being denied a follow car, having no idea if we need to preregister (and where one might do that) or even where and when the race is, we’re having good sensations. There is a rumor that someone close to Team Assos will be flying in to conquer the race. By close we mean pseudo-teammate, who we owe much of our successes to. We look forward to follwing his (or her?) attacks and will humbly accept a second place should it be offered.
If these good sensations show themselves at the race it should be known that we have a direct line to Assos international should we need to print up either leaders jersey after the stages (as you know our strict team policy)
Despite the primary members of Team Assos apparently being shunned from the camera, Team Mechanic Jason found his way into focus this Tuesday and is looking far better than anyone else in this picture.
You may have noticed that things have been a bit quieter on the Team Assos blog. The truth is things have been quiet all over the St. Louis racing scene. With just tuesday nights to hold us over from Forest Park until Hermann (Team Assos abstains from Hillsboro, courteously), we’ve tried to stay busy as well as enjoy some leisure time.
This past Sunday, for the occasion of Flanders, Team Assos attended a rendezvous at the alternate service course (yes, we have two). Team mechanic Jason and everyday-adventure-man Luke prepared a wonderful spread, complete with pancakes, bloody marys, live music from homemade instruments and live stream of the race in every room (prepared by their IT roommate Justin). We watched Flanders, enjoyed a great race and even greater result by Honorary Team Assos member Filippo Pozzato. His second place was a great result, and while he may have held his reigns a bit too tightly, we hope to again see him on good form this weekend for Roubaix.
Perhaps this time my bet will come true, and when he crosses the line in first I will be whisked to a hair salon and my hair promptly cornrowed, thus rendering me even more like my idol (the back tattoo comes if he wins worlds).
Come out and support Team Assos this weekend. We race the Carondelicious Criterium Saturday, our race starts at 3:30 in Carondelet Part. Sunday we race the Great Forest Park Bike Race at 3:45.
We will be playing St. Louis Rap prior to the race start, so get there early if you are into that sort of thing.
There have been rumors circulating recently regarding Team Assos, and we would like to dismiss these before they get out of hand. These rumors center around the idea that there is a weight requirement to be on Team Assos (sub 130, 125 or even 120 lbs). These are completely false. In contrast, Team Assos actually doesn’t condone or endorse dieting for sport. Team Assos does endorse the “when-in-Rome” philosophy: Chicago dogs when we race in Chicago, bar-b-que when we race in Kansas City etc.
Team Assos fully endorses the hamburger as a pre-criterium-meal.
When riding through the Hill our Italian componentry often garners us free food.
Although Froze Toes did not go to as planned, we still popped tags, and were wearing the freshest (literally) clothes we could.
If you read this blog you are invited. If you read this blog you also know that no expense will be spared to ensure a good time is had. We guarantee it will be the best launch party for a St. Louis racing team. Be there.
Party starts at 8, at the official Team Assos Service Course.
